Hi All,
Does anyone know if the GM Mako Shark II show car will be at Corvettes at Carlisle on August 23 weekend?

Is there even such a thing as the real GM Mako Shark 2 any more?

From everything I've read, the real fiberglass Mako Shark 2 was converted into the Manta Ray. Don't know about the clay version, but imagine that it couldn't last very long.

The Manta Ray used to be on exhibit at the Corvette Musuem in Bowling Green, but then was moved to storage at GM "because it looked so bad" (according to a elderly ticket taker at the museum).

I haven't been back to the museum in a few years now though...

I didn't know the Shark was converted. I thought I read somewhere that it was at Carlisle a year or two ago. But the writer may have mistaken the Manta for the Mako????

Printed information that I have read says that the one & only fiberglass Mako Shark 2 was converted into the Manta Ray.

The Manta Ray is still around, and was in the Corvette Museum for a small number of years.

When I went to the museum late in 1997, it had already been put into storage at the GM plant there in Bowling Green. It was when I first got my Mako Shark 2 replica, and was the main reason that I went to the museum. I was pretty upset to have missed it.

Thats correct; GM still owns the Manta/Mako and displays it from time to time at various shows.

The first one was clay. The second was a running fiberglass car.

From everything I have heard the clay has been destroyed.

The fiberglass car was made into the Manta Ray.

I wonder why they would destroy it?
I know of a few auto makers that have
kept their Clay Concepts in storage,
instead of destroying them.

I was thinking the same thing. As you
know David, from those photos I sent
to you of the running version, It had
It's references from the clay version,
and, I thought at lest that one would
have survived. From what you say, I
guess It's gone.
