Added Carl's owner page... still kind of roughly laid out... Carl if you could provide me with more text, that would be helpful (and of course keep us updated with pictures).

Awsome!

Glad to see this one go owners page.

Hey Carl, if you can tell us what you understand the build up process will be like.
Example: use of foam on the back, shaping it, laying glass on finished
foam shape ect. ect.

I would love to know what the plan of process will be of the man doing the job.

This would help some of us to better undersand what we're looking at when we
see the progress photos as they come.

THANKS :D

Wow- now that is some serious progress. Lookin' good. My only question is exactly what kind of foam did he use on the back. Did he mix it and pour it on- (expandable foam) ? Please advise, thanks. This is the stuff I need for my Camaro.

Added a couple more pictures.

Carl, why the well in the back? Why doesn't it go flush like the real Manta at the bottom of the V. The way it is, you are going to have to sop out water any time you wash the car or if it rains...

Also, the inside of the V should be higher then the outside of the V...

Of course these are my opinions (except for the water problem).

I understand what David is stating and appears to be right however, i also know that the rear fenders on the Manta Ray were stock highth, it's the rear deck by the rear window thats higher than stock. If the rear deck was higher then the stock fenders the V at the rear wouldn't capture water like David is getting at. Of course this could all be changing and a part of the process thats not complet yet, i just figurted i'd mention it for what it's worth. The progrss looks great though.

Power outage before i could complet the Edit of my last post.

The rear deck is what also give the rear window that small look due to it coming up higher than on stock. I noticed the project car has a larger window area but, i also understand that the work is not complet so with that said, i'm sure all will work it's self out.

At the end of the V on the rear the deck runs almost flush at the most base point, thats why it wont hold rain or condensation. If you notice the V at it's most base point it is about 1/2 inch raised off the the rear and 1 to 1 1/2 inch to the start of the bumper. These are not precise measurements just an observative guestimation.

Good luck Carl and keep us posted.

The rear end of the deck of the Manta is no where near the stock height of a 68 up corvette or Mako either. See how it tapers down to the belt line. It is a whole lot closer to the height of a 63-67 at the rear. If the deck is dropped at the rear there would be no water problem, it would drain to the rear. Plus the center of the V needs to be raised about 2" at the front by the back window, that is what gives it the chopped top effect.

You misunderstood what it was i was saying. The finders are stock height
but the deck is higher. I agree that the deck gives it the chopped look.
I never said the deck was stock height, read back and you will see, Post
#6 " i also know that the rear fenders on the Manta Ray were stock
highth". FENDERS! I didn't say deck because i knew they were higher than
stock.

The progress on the Manta is very promising, i will wait to see what the
finished project turns out like but appears very nice so far.

I think that at the ending stages of the project when he's calculate how much it's cost him, we may find out. Due to him having somebody do the work for him, it would cost more than if an owner was to do the job them selves.

I was wondering if you took any photos of the rear section with the back cut off before you removed the gas tank?
I've been wondering how it looks and how much room is left on the rear chassis with the tank in place.
Or could you take measurements off the rear of the tank to the end of the chassis when you reassemble it please?
I've been toying around with an idea and was wondering what these measurements are so i know what i have to work with.
Thanks

I wasnt there when the tank was removed. We had to cut off the rear of the frame and we'll have to raise the tank about 1 inch to get the clearence on the bottom. You could see were the previous owner had sprayed alot of flat black paint over the frame to mask the rust. Its not really that bad, its just the idea.

They were almost definitely the ones used in the Mako Shark II...

How did your old ones look, too big?

You can also look at your store to see what aftermarket lenses look good (or go to PepBoys, Advanced Auto, AutoZone).
