"Engine numbers"
Feb-07-09, 06:26 PM (EDT)
I found this number on the back right of the intake manifold.

8818808
GM 4

I believe this block to be a 327.

Maybe this number will help me put this guessing game to rest.

If there is another number I need to provide, then let me know
and I will go check it out and report it.

Thanks for any help.

There is alot of muck hiding it but I was able to clean it off a
little and this is what I got. 3914678
Not to sure about the first two digits though.

Hope it helps.

This is a 68 and like I said before, the previous owner tried to
sell me a 427 so I'm not entirely sure this is the factory engine
even if it turns out to be a 68 block.

Well it is a 68 327. now look on the passengers side front of the block, just in front of the valve cover. find a flat place about 3/4" wide and 4" long. should be some #s stamped,< not cast> there.

Second number is 18s422875

vin
194378s422875

I know what this means, it's the original engine.

It's numbers matching...
300HP 327 4speed
with 32368
over 8890 on the odometer

Can you tell what the born date and location was?

Any extra info would be greatly appreciated

Look inside the drivers doorjamb at the front where the hinges are.
There is a metal tag with numbers on it.
It tells the orig paint code , trim, and the build date.
According to your serial number the car was built between may and june.
If you give me those numbers, I can get exact.
Not to step in on Wayne, I just have all of that stuff handy.

Unforunately no such tag exsists on my vette
just two holes where i'm guessing screws
held this tag in place.

I wish I did have it still, it's info
I'd love to know.
