"Hood latch install"
Aug-11-05, 07:26 PM (EDT)
LAST EDITED ON Aug-11-05 AT 07:29 PM (EDT)

I have done away with the hood pins. I am returning to stock configuration on the hood latch system. It is fairly straightforward, but when a goober rips the threads out of something, a modification needs to be done, and when you are working on backyard slappedtogether cars, that comes naturally.

Pic one shows the damage, the holes are where the threads once were.
This holds the latch assembly to the cowl on the right side.

Pic two shows the latch (stock) that needs to be installed.

Pic three shows the holes drilled and ready for the insert.

Pic four shows one done.

Pic five shows it mounted and ready for adjustment.

Pic six shows the left one installed and adjusted.

I had to use shims to make the adjustment complete.

Now, all I have to do is adjust the right side and the hood will open like a stock corvette.

Like I said, its slow, but I am moving at least.

Wow, this is very informative on how to go about installing stock hood latches which happens to be another item on my list of things to do. Thanks for the insight and a job well done.

Your pictures and steps will help greatly.

Here's what mine looked like last time I took a picture of it (2005/05/26)... that's what the stock stud looks like.

Exactly. I should have shot a pic before I removed the bolts that were shoved in mine. Note the hole (missing the plug) where you can slide a screwdriver into from the wiper tray to unlatch the mechanism. Good shot David.
I will still have to put in some alignment pins for the sides of the hood, but that is a little down the road right now.

Oh, oh, oh yeah... Thats it baby!
Now i'm assuming it's in the same location on each side?
I'll have to take a look under Dixie's skirt again but
i can't say for sure or not but, it doesn't appear that
my engines firewall in the same location as your photo
has the same set up. I'll take another gander.

Thank you very much for the reference photo David.

This has been something i've really never truely understood
when it comes to stock location and how to install some on
a car that has never had them or doesn't currently have them.

I believe that I have some hood latches, the part that mounts to the hood. Is that what you need?
