Anybody happen to know the patent number for the patent award to Bill Mitchell in 1966 for the Mako Shark Corvette?

I don't know, but I have a copy of the stuff. There is a fellow on ebay selling what you have pictured.

When you get a chance can you look through it to see if the number is on it?

I want to look it up online, and the main way to look up items older then 1970 is with the patent number.

I was wondering if a car can be copied exactly once the design patent has expired.

Most kit cars have to be 10% off or else they can be shut down by the owner of the car design... but once the design patent has expired, does that mean you can copy it exactly? Could that be why there are so many Cobra kits?

Silva was supposedly pursued by GM for the Maco...

Did you check to see if the patent number was shown?

(I am assuming that the guy didn't give out any pages that show that, because then you would be able to find it easily yourself and get it for free or very low cost).

Thanks! I don't have one... I saw it on e-bay, and figured if I could get the number, then I can just query for it on http://www.uspto.gov

And then build one based on the patent info Yeah, right.

The design patent number is D206,063 and can be found using the patent number search page.

The patent consists of 2 scanned pages in the TIF format (I used the QuickTime plug-in to view them in IE).

You MUST use the search feature to get the pictures yourself, you can not use the following 2 page links as the session will have timed out. They are left here so that once you have a session, you can directly grab the photos (if you update the IDKey part of the URL).

Page 2

The term of the design patent is 14 years, from October 25, 1966 (so it has expired).

So get off the computer and start building one!
Should be fairly easy, we've got the directions.
