"From tank to lid"
Jan-09-09, 08:19 AM (EDT)
I've mentioned it a few time in the past few years but I don't think
I've ever gotten a solid responce with a product to get.

I have an original MOTION fuel lid on my Mako but I have no fuel
neck leading from the tank to the lid and I'm sure I'll need
some sort of a funnel/restrictor on the end of that neck bolting
up to the underside of the fuel lid for the fuel gun to rest in
while fueling and as an auto shut off when fuel reaches the top.

Right now it's a huge pain in the ars to fill up, often over filling
leaving the smell of fuel inside the car while driving. This is no
good and I'm a smoker to boot.

You could say that I will have a flaming set of wheels soon if this
continues.

I need some help locating the right product for purchase.

My lid rests on the high point of the back and not the lower sides
of the deck. Eventually this may change but for now it's just under
the rear of where the back window should be.

Right now it's a balancing act in the garage to get fuel into my car
because I don't want to over fill.

You can either chang to a 78-82 gas tank or find a filler neck for a 63-67 coupe , either will get the neck where it should be.

Bryan...I'm not trying to steal the thread here, but Wayne, do you think either of those years will work in my '69? I'm using a Lemans type filler with a neck that extends about 4" into the tank. The neck is about 1 1/2 - 2" OD and the tank opening is quite a bit larger. Thanks guys, Marv.

The 63-67 coupe neck would work but it is about 31/2-4 " opening.

This is what I found.

I'll need all three I guess...
Fuel Neck, Gasket & Overflow Boot.

Thanks for the help.

Marv, after thinking about it ,sounds more like your filler cap was probably designed to slip into a fuel cell. I have an ATL fuel cell . Wayne

Thanks Wayne. See attached for what I bought for a cap. You may be right about needing a fuel cell, but until I get the car home, I won't know for sure what I have to do.

The car has the original '69 tank in the stock location, with gas cap, so there isn't much room for a transistion neck. I initially planned to cut a hole in the original cap, install a rubber boot/grommet, then slide the filler tube through the boot to seal the opening.

I'll make a copy of this thread for my file to look at later when I get to the that part of the project. Until then, thanks for the offer. Marv

Yep, looks like it was designed to slip down into a fuel cell. I have a nice ATL fuel cell for $100 plus shipping if your interested. Wayne

Thanks Wayne. I'll keep your offer in mind until I see what I have to do, then I'll contact you if I am still interested.

Thanks Bryan for letting me highjack the thread!!!
