Hi Guys,
just about interest readed this article and all the difficulties with producing letters and logos.During my research to produce from 3D data some pieces (well, wheels and tires and whole cars in 1/64 scale) may i have a cheaper solution for you.
I made all my wheels myself in 3D, and the script you want is pretty easy. Anyway allready draw in my 3D aplication the outlines of the script a few months ago. But for other reasons.
Now what technics would work for you is Rapid Prototyping.
Two ways to go, one is Laser sintering (cheap but less quality) and the other Stereolytography (bit more expensive but best quality).
I recomand stereolytography while much more precise (within 0,1mm !!).
You just need a 3D file and send it to a manufacturer, as exampel a good one in the states is:

I would expect a price for this base piece of approx 200 Dollars.
Let it be 400 Dollars, what still would be much less than before calculated.
All the rest one skilled of you can do at private (except chroming).
Then make a 2 piece mould (which i guess wouldn´t be problem for many of you, fiberglass guys) with Silikon RTV/HB. This silikon is heat resistant !
Cast it with lead and chrome it.
And voila, you get your pieces for a real cheap price and can do as many you want.
Did i mentioned you could allready put the nuts as inlays when you fill in the lead ? And if your much more clever also put a small steel bar as stiffener in it.
BTW: with the 3D-Data i can provide you. Just would have to do some small adjustments as ad the II. Really easy.

Just let me know when interested about the 3D-data.
